Located in an original miner's cabin at the south end of town. Coming from Santa Fe drive past the Mineshaft, we're just around the corner on Rt. 14. Coming from Albuquerque we're the first shop on the right, next to the Madrid sign. Park across the street between the Clayhorse and the Real Macoy. Contemporary ARTifacts, unique teapots, FUNctional clayware, paintings! Madrid artist in residence.
Artist's Statement - "I make sculptural objects out of functional forms. At first glance much of my work may look like sculptural objects for display only, but in fact each piece is designed to be used and/or played. Many pieces are clay flutes or ocarinas; pieces chirp, rattle, whistle or are capable of being played as musical instruments. However, I also make "quiet" dishes, mugs, and teapots, too. My career began as an illustrator of children's books. Most of the work in clay begins as doodles in the sketchbook, most are loaded with regional imagery, and sometimes I just have to stop everything and make a painting. All my work is unique, designed and made in my studio, and most of it is one of a kind. I find making multiples just too dull! So stop by for a visit, buy a totally unique work of art, a clay sculpture that whistles or chirps,or just a very personal coffee mug!"
